TOLL MAINTENANCE MANAGER

About the RMTA:  The RMTA was established by the Virginia General Assembly to build and operate a variety of public facilities and offer public services, especially transportation related, within the Richmond metropolitan area, each of which is operated and financed solely by user fees. We have employees throughout the organization who have been with us from three months to forty-seven years!

About the Role: The RMTA Toll Maintenance Manager directs and monitors the installation and operational performance of tolling equipment as part of the RMTA’s all-electronic tolling (AET) modernization project. This includes overseeing contractor performance to ensure 24/7 compliance with maintenance service agreements and performance standards; identifying issues across the RMTA’s tolling system; and ensuring seamless integration of legacy and next-generation tolling technologies during phased implementation. This critical role is also responsible for incident and risk management, and toll maintenance budget management.

The successful candidate will have an associate’s degree OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; and bring deep technical knowledge and a proactive approach to ensure uninterrupted system performance in a 24/7 operating environment.  Background to include: 5+ years of experience in tolling operations, ITS or roadway infrastructure installation and maintenance; experience with field tolling technologies such as AVI readers, cameras, loop detectors, lane controllers, or VES (Violation Enforcement System) is a PLUS.  Candidates must have general knowledge and experience with analyzing data using excel, PowerBI, or asset management dashboards; strong leadership and project management skills; ability to communicate effectively with contractors, all levels of staff, management, and the general public.  A valid Virginia driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple field locations is required.
